August 2nd, 2008: Hi Everyone! I am just so excited! And the reason why? Because I am now going to be offering a new bag that is practical, green, a pattern all my own and it will be helping other people. Farming-by-the-Sea, in partnership with Ventura Grain Inc. of Taunton, Massachusetts, is now offering a green reuseable shopping bag that will be benefiting the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Fund at Kansas State University. The grocery bags are being made from grain bags that cannot be reused by Ventura and half of the proceeds generated are being donated. The bags are being sold for $2 and $1 is being donated to Breast Cancer Research. To order your bag, just go to the I Want to Know More page and place your order! Tough Enough to Wear Pink is an event held at Kansas State University by Sigma Alpha, the professional agricultural sorority I belong to and Collegiate Cattlewomen's Association. It is a week-long event that raises money for Breast Cancer Research through the sale of t-shirts and donations. Last year, the girls raised just about $10,000. Which is INCREDIBLE!! Hats off to those girls! They sell just about over 2000 t-shirts, which, when they become available, will also be advertised on this website. Check back at the beginning of September for this! The money raised at Tough Enough to Wear Pink goes to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Fund. I am just so excited, and I bet you can see the reason why! I hope that this will take off and raise so much money for breast cancer research. Breast cancer runs in my family, as does with many of you, and I have two aunts very close to me that are survivors and my mom is at very high risk. So breast cancer hits home. I also want to thank everyone who attended the Westport Fair and stopped by the booth. We had a great time at the fair, seeing all of you! Here is a great picture of the booth at the fair captured by a photographer at westporthappenings.com. Visit their website for more pictures of the the fair and other photos taken at happenings around Westport. If you would like to see more pictures of the booth, just go to the Westport Happenings website, scroll down to Westport Happenings Photo Gallery, and a new window will open. On the left hand side, go to Fair-Vendors and scroll through the photos till you see our booth and our many handbags for sale! (In Photo L to R: Mom, Me, Kathryn, Mallorie, Kathryn's BF Scott)
June 3rd, 2008: Hey everybody! Here I am again to start another fun season of purse making here in Westport, Massachusetts. I came back from Manhattan, Kansas a couple of weeks ago and now am getting into what I really should be doing this summer and not goofing off! No, not me! :) And I am starting to use the word wicked again. YES! This is going to be one heck of a summer! I am taking Organic Chemistry I and II and Orgo I lab. Phew! Ontop of that, I am working for a small Angus farm here in Westport, and am trying to find that second job for all of my buying gas needs! Gas is way too expensive these days! (I am always going somewhere in my truck. If I could live in it, I would.) And on Fridays, I am working with a local large animal veterinarian, Dr. Karin K., helping her out when she does rounds and has emergencies! I'm so excited! So here's a run down of where Farming-by-the-Sea will be (tenatively). We are housed always here, on the website, and we will also be at Ventura Grain in Taunton, Massachusetts. Say hi to the bunnies that they have there, and take a good look around. They have a large selection from lawn and garden supplies to every livestock and horse equipment that you could think of! We will be at the Westport Fair this year, and hopefully we will be there all 5 days this time!! YAH!! I love fair time :) and I am also working on getting us to the Westport Farmer's Market on Main Road on Saturday mornings during the month of July. We may be going to a few other fairs and festivals, so check the website often for updates on the calendar and where we will be this summer! Something new that I will be featuring on the website during the summer is a small blog. I want to show all of you what a day in my life is like, and I will also put interesting tidbits and fun facts in there about farming, sewing, nonsense stuff and Westport history. I will be taking pictures everyday of things that I am doing and will be featuring them in my blog. I also want to hear your comments about the purses that have become your everyday essentials! Feel free to comment me here at the website or send an e-mail at webmaster@farmingbythesea.com. I hope that you are all doing well and that you are looking forward to this summer with as much anticipation as I am. Make a trip down to Horseneck beach this summer right here in Westport! Or make a trip to any kind of sandy body of water anywhere, grab a lawn chair, a pair of flip flops and some sunscreen and chill out for a little while! Remember, you only come this way once. Make sure you live this life to the fullest! And hope to see or hear from you all this summer! Happy purse buying!! -Kim :) PS. Here's some pictures of me working! Hope you enjoy them! And FIY, my mom took them for me :)
