Located in Westport, Massachusetts, Farming-by-the-Sea is a maker of beautifully crafted purses and totes for the everyday woman that strives for practical styling while creating a wearable work of art.

In a small town by the sea, an idea was born to bring people everywhere a little bit of the unique area to them.

Westport is a little village located in Southeastern Massachusetts. At one time, it boasted the most dairy farms in the state. But since then, the agriculture in the area has declined. Yet there are still those that try to bring a little bit of the old days to the people residing there.

My name is Kimberly Tarvis, and I am the person behind the sewing machine, the face behind the magic. I am 21 years old and am currently in college. I graduated recently in May from SUNY Cobleskill with my A.A.S. in Beef and Livestock Studies, transferred to Cornell University, and am now making an even larger change, and transferring to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas! I will be majoring in Animal Sciences and Industries and hope to get into beef cattle research and extension with an emphasis in either reproduction or nutrition. PS. I applying to vet school. So keep your finger's crossed!!! I am wicked excited!!

My interest in Farming-By-The-Sea was stemmed by my heavy interest for agriculture and an abounding love for sewing. Both of these were bestowed upon me by my grandparents, kindled and nurtured by my loving parents. Thank you Mom and Dad so much! I love you both!

With every stitch I sew, love comes out through, and a guiding light from above allows me to do this. This will help me to carry on the legacy of my grandparents past, helping me on a new path to spread the voice of agriculture in Southeastern Massachusetts.

I have a small herd of registered Polled Hereford beef cattle and have been active in both 4-H, Future Farmers of America (FFA) and other collegiate clubs, including Sigma Alpha, a professional agricultural sorority. I have shown my cattle at many local, regional and national shows. In addition to my cattle, I also have a ball of energy Golden Retriever, Willow, a Lionshead rabbit, Peanut and 7 white quail. These quail are special because their parents were raised on cranberry byproduct, and they were hatched by myself. This whole endeavor was sponsored by the Cape Cod Cranberry Grower's Association and Decas Cranberry Products.

I'm rabbling on, but I love to sew and am addicted to Project Runway. I hope that you enjoy the selection of purses, bags and totes that we offer. Please come and see us when you can at the different events that we will be at. Check out the Where to Find Us... tab for more information!
